Well it’s 2014 and in the third and final part of our look back at the last twelve months, we stop looking backwards and focus on who’s likely to be hot in 2014. Using a cunning mix of guess-work, and total stabs in the dark, we’ve compiled a collection of artists that we feel are likely to make waves in the next year. So sit back, take a deep breath … can you smell that ?! That’s the pungent smell of fresh talent waiting to be discovered.

Leon T. Pearl
A relative newcomer to our musical conscience, but someone we managed to see live supporting AlunaGeorge back in October. Described by some as the modern-day Mike Skinner and boy oh boy with all the swagger to match. His sound can best be described as a hybrid between late 90’s early 00’s garage with a cheeky lyrical twist.

Banks
It’d be near enough impossible not to include Banks in a list of people to keep an eye on. With the Los Angeles singer/songwriter racking up mentions on both the BBC’s sound of 2014 and the UK blog sound of 2014 long list. Things are certainly looking rosy for Banks and her sultry soulful sound.

Moko
Hitting us with her sultry and smooth track ‘Homesick’ which we featured on our Summer playlist back in May. Moko has spent the year being busy collaborating with Chase And Status on their track ‘Count On Me’ as well as releasing her debut ‘Black’ EP. Occupying a space somewhere between Trip Hop, and Soulful RnB, with some calling her London’s answer to Massive Attack.

Flytes
Flytes have only been together as a band for a few months, which if you’ve seen them play live is surprising. They’ve quickly pinned down a sound that’s both confident and strangely familiar. With flashings of a more upbeat Theme Park. Their debut EP is on the way.

Satchmode
LA based Satchmode are another artist that is relatively new on the scene but have made a big impact. Blending restrained vocals with sweeping electro beds and pop-esque beats. Their latest track ‘Best Intentions’ is an early sign of what we can expect in the next few months.

Sivu
Working with Charlie Andrews the producer behind the juggernaut of success that is Alt-J ∆. Sivu has spent the last year building a growing following thanks to the release of singles such as ‘Better Man Than He’ and ‘Bodies’. I can safely say we can expect some sort of album in the new year, and from what we’ve heard so far it should be a belter.

Dems
Crafting beautiful, distorted and glitch ridden tracks which shudder with deep basslines. Dems have numerous remixes under their belt, but they’ve just released a new original track which features delicate vocals from new comer Claudie.

Bloum
Bloum are a French electro art pop four-piece which consists of two musicians and two graphic designs. So aside from sounding great they also look great. Their nine track debut album has slowly been taking shape over the last year, over on soundcloud, with the group unleashing a new track every few months.

Phoenix Martins
After hearing the powerful and actually amazing track ‘Heartstrings’ back in May, it’d be near enough impossible for Phoenix Martins not to make some sort of impact in the next year. Packing all the vocal punch of the big hitters like Paloma Faith, and Jessie Ware but with dollops and dollops more emotion and heartfelt delivery.

Woman’s Hour
Having recently signed to Secretly Canadian, things are certainly looking promising for the ex-North Westerners and their slightly rough around the edges, gritty but massively endearing sound. We defy you not to be entranced by their reworking of the Bruce Springsteen classic ‘Dancing in The Dark’.
